While outsourcing sales has the potential to save businesses money and grow their top lines significantly, it takes real sales expertise to get the full benefit of outsourced sales. Many sales outsourcing companies simply offer ‘hired gun’ salespeople that will hit the phones and the pavement in order to augment existing sales efforts; Acquirent is special in offering help with every aspect of sales: hiring, training, administration, appointment setting, and more.

Hiring services are employed by companies that want to reduce the overhead associated with recruiting and vetting a sales staff. For smaller and medium-sized firms, the expense of a dedicated sales recruiter and manager can’t be justified by economies of scale. Because an outsourced sales staffing company has many clients, it can offer recruitment for less than it would cost in-house, and because companies like ours have been doing it for years, we have access to a better and more diverse pool of talent, scouted and grown over the course of combined decades of experience.

Most sales outsourcing companies won’t offer training services, either. Companies dedicated to selling and growing their clients’ businesses have the wisdom and experience that comes from selling the products and services of dozens of firms over the years. That expertise can be leveraged for improving in-house sales programs, in addition to its usability for outsourced sales.

Because many outsourced sales companies all take an all or none approach to clients – either clients surrender most of their sales activities or none – they don’t offer the administrative support for selling that is so useful in improving efficiency and effectiveness of the sales force. Administrative support can also be too expensive for smaller businesses who would have to employ a dedicated individual to compile reports and analysis that organize and track sales data, so this unique capability of better outsourcing companies can be instrumental in small and mid-sized businesses’ success.

Finally, many companies that offer services to the sales industry are little more than cold calling firms. Does the company your business is considering have veteran salespeople, and decades-long relationships within all industries across the economy? Relationships can open doors (and set appointments!), so it should be obvious that there is something special about a company that can take advantage of opportunities to translate trusting relationships into sales and business growth in both new and existing markets.

My company had become completely disorganized. My sales team was so focused on going to trade shows and getting out and promoting our products that they were forgetting to take the time to complete some relatively simple tasks. By the time I realized what was occurring, it had become too late. We were entirely overwhelmed by information that had not been properly filed or processed. My sales department had turned into a nightmare, and to make matters worse, I was being audited.

While their enthusiasm over going out and selling our products was great, I needed the administrative side of sales taken care of as well. I needed weekly reports outlining our statistical sales data. I needed statistical sales forecasting reports so I could contact our manufacturing department with concrete numbers for production. I also needed these statistical sales reports to show to the auditors but it was impossible to generate any type of report when the original information hadn’t even been entered into the computer.

Many of sales reps were weeks behind in even entering their sales into our computer system. Customers were calling to complain that they had not received what they had ordered. I was at my wits end. My sales team had completely failed to complete the administrative end of the work, which was basically just as important as the selling aspect of their job.

A friend recommended to me that I outsource some of my sales. I was unfamiliar with this process but I decided to look into it further. I was very surprised to find out that there were companies that would send in a highly trained team of sales professionals to take over your entire sales department. This was exactly what I needed to get back on track.

Within a few short months I had an entirely new sales team come in. They organized all of my information and brought my sales department up to speed with the rest of the company. The new sales team spent an abundance of time promoting my products and actively seeking out new markets, but they also took the time to properly enter and file all new orders and paperwork. There was a team leader that was constantly providing me with the reports that I needed and making sure that the sales team was on task. If I had not outsourced my sales team, my company would have surely been run right into the ground.

Many companies can benefit from some type of sales mentoring. Whether you own a small business that provides services throughout your community, or you are the CEO of a large corporation that ships products out across the nation, by increasing your sales you are ultimately increasing your profits. A lot of businesses miss out on a number of sales opportunities every day because they are unaware that they even exist.

There are companies that specialize in offering sales mentoring services. I have seen both small and large companies benefit from these types of services. Sales mentors can provide you with professional guidance in exploring ways to grow your business and they can help to build your sales team and prepare them to aggressively seek out new business.

A small company does not always have the resources or the time to grow their sales. Many of them are operated by the owner who is committed to performing whatever type of service that he provides. For example, the owner of a small construction business is out on the job all day long making sure that everything is going as planned. He doesn’t have the time to sit around in an office all day exploring ways that he can grow his company. A sales mentor can come in and see what other local opportunities for business are available. The mentor can spend some time going through bids and contracts and finding the best money making opportunities. If you don’t have the time to actively spend looking for ways to increase your business, there are people that you can hire that will.

On the other hand, large companies can also benefit tremendously from sales mentoring. A large company has a lot more opportunities to expand, but unfortunately they are unaware of many of these opportunities. There are markets that exist that they may never even be introduced to. A trained sales professional can find new sales avenues for your company to explore. They can also work hard to strengthen and build upon existing relationships that you have with your customers.

A business owner is not always a skilled sales professional. Most businesses are looking for new opportunities to grow and increase their profits. The poor economy has left many of these businesses struggling to survive. A sales mentor can provide you with a competitive edge in today’s market and can maximize your businesses’ potential to grow.
